Starting with the fundamentals of the Ansys Electronic Desktop environment, you will gain hands-on experience with HFSS while learning the complete simulation workflow. The course combines theoretical concepts with practical application, allowing you to immediately implement your knowledge through guided workshops focused on RF and microwave applications.

You will master critical aspects of electromagnetic simulation including geometry construction, defining boundaries and simulation space, setting up wave and lumped ports, configuring solution setups, performing frequency sweeps, and conducting post-processing. The course features real-world examples such as filters and microstrip structures and teaches you how to obtain key results such as S-parameters and electromagnetic field behavior. Interactive Q&A sessions complement the workshops to ensure that you develop a solid foundation with this industry-leading high-frequency electromagnetic simulation tool.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

Navigate the Ansys Electronic Desktop environment and understand the workflow and interface components essential for RF/microwave simulation.
Create 3D geometries within HFSS and understand coordinate systems, drawing tools, and Boolean operations necessary for constructing RF and microwave structures.
Define appropriate boundary conditions for models including electrical conductors, radiation boundaries, and symmetry planes to represent electromagnetic behavior.
Configure wave ports and lumped ports for models and understand the impact of port placement and sizing.
Set up simulation parameters including mesh operations, convergence criteria, and adaptive solutions.
Perform frequency sweeps and understand the implications of sweep types on results.
Generate key performance metrics for high-frequency designs such as S-parameters and Smith charts.
Visualize electromagnetic field distributions to understand field behavior throughout a model.
